Taking an official hiatus (men, that is)
Work? Nah no way! I have reached a point of no return and though finances are quite shaky right now, I believe things will get better. They have to.
Working endlessly literally day and night to take my catering business off the ground has consumed all my time. The only spare moment I have is for Belle. So I have decided that I shouldn’t even bother with the whole guy scene. I am working on...

Social Media and the Single Mom too
First and foremost I must say: Rest in Perfect Peace to Whitney Houston. No matter her latter circumstances, she will always be a star. Prayers to the family. We will ALWAYS love you!!
This week is Social Media Week here in the Big Apple. Even though I had one day to take the opportunity to physically go to the session, I am so thankful for online streaming. This is the advantage of being able...

Does being a single mom define your career/goals?
The good news is, I finally found my niche!
But there’s a problem.
My career path and raising a child do not mix. At all.
You see, I love events. I have organized them, planned them, designed them, and managed them for about 8 years now (professionally).
Of course, in between, I took breaks while working another 8-4er job.
Now I have the...

9 is the new 6.
Yes, I know. A redundancy of Jay z’s coined phrase like 100 yrs ago. But this really does apply.
I am observing that in order for the single mom to have a “somewhat” nightlife, she must schedule her meet ups at 9pm-ish after tucking in baby to bed and cleaning up. I feel so guilty heading out the house at 5:30pm when Belle is still up and about playing, reading, or watching...
And that's why we need men!
At approximately 19 degrees this evening, I was forced to put air in all 4 tires at the pump station. Once I managed to get back in the car, my hands were frozen cold like a freezer-burned chicken at the A&P.
“I need to rent a husband” I said to my mom while trying to warm up.
Yes, I am capable of doing it. But I don’t want to because I have a million other things to do...
Parenting: The Ultimate Responsibility Test
I thought life got complicated when I had to handle budgets, bills, pension plans, and credit. Nothing, absolutely nothing, prepares you for parental responsibilities.Trying to find a good school in the urban city is one of them. I am quite happy with the private, Catholic school she is attending right now. I just wish it were closer to home. I was also hoping she would be able to attend the one...

Mommy in business
Starting and running a business has got to be one of the most exhausting things, EVER! Then add raising a small child, as a single parent, into the mix and you’ve got yourself many sleepless nights.
I don’t even have to talk about the joys of raising a child (especially if you are a parent already), so all the stress and strain is worth it. ow as for the business, just like my child,...

Empowerment
Starting a business is not easy at all. I believe the key to the initial stages of it is networking, networking, and then some. I have met and continue to meet some good people who are out there trying to do the damn thing as well.
Tonight, I went to an affiliate partnerships presentation, and although it did not really grab my attention, I walked away meeting a few good she-entrepreneurs....

What to do with child?
Events is my thing. I like to plan them. I like to attend them. You will constantly find me on the computer searching for what’s going on around town. My family and friends have coined me the “go-to hospitality person” of the family.
With Belle, I do the same thing. I am always looking for what’s happening around town for kids her age. There is a ton of stuff out there. I...
